The Coalition Government is very focused on participating in a constructive and meaningful debate about our national energy mix.
It’s a very complex picture but it is clear that the transition to renewable energy supplies and a lower emissions future is well and truly underway.
Renewables are a critical part of our energy future but significant research and development is required. We need to see new technology take significant steps to make the transition to renewables a cost effective efficient process and one that assists the provision of reliable supplies.
We can all be confident this transition is underway and that there will be remarkable changes in the coming five years.
A considered approach is necessary using the best technology to develop a grid that uses wind close-cycle gas turbine solar and wind technologies being supported by storage together with high-efficiency low-emission (HELE) coal plants.
The energy mix is changing on a daily basis.
It is our Government’s aim to meet our international emission reduction commitments while at the same time maintaining energy security and affordability.
We need to establish a credible scaleable and predictable national climate change policy to achieve our emissions reduction targets without compromising power reliability or security of supply for all regions of Australia; for businesses and families alike.
