Member for Groom John McVeigh has paid tribute to the teachers working in Toowoomba and across the Darling Downs on World Teachers’ Day today.
“On World Teachers’ Day we celebrate the teachers who made a difference in our life as well as the teachers who are educating Australia’s children,” Dr McVeigh said.
“The best thing that we can do to improve outcomes in education is attract the best possible people to the teaching profession, train them to be the best possible teachers, and support them to teach effectively and to continue to improve.
“Teachers are the lifeblood of school communities and play an important role in educating our children.
“I am the husband of a hardworking teacher and me and our six children completed schooling through the local education system. I have seen firsthand the passion, knowledge and commitment of teachers in our region and the very positive impact they can have on the lives of our families and children,” he said.
“Our local teachers are a credit to themselves, their schools and our community and today we salute our teachers and the work they do.”
