Member for Groom John McVeigh today announced funding for 15 schools across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs under the first round of the Coalition Government’s Local Schools Community Fund.
Speaking at Toowoomba State High School at Mt Lofty, Dr McVeigh said the Coalition Government was providing $200,000 to help 15 local schools with the cost of new infrastructure and activities.
“Here at Toowoomba State High School I am very pleased to announce that we are providing $10,000 towards the school’s Mountain Biking Academy,” Dr McVeigh said.
“This is a great example of how we can use funding from the Federal Government to provide more opportunities for local kids and encourage participation.
“I’m advised the Toowoomba State High School mountain bike program has broad appeal ensuring integration across the wider school community.
“This program also aligns with Toowoomba Regional Council’s desire to promote more mountain bike trails along the escarpment, including potentially on Defence Housing land at Mount Lofty.”
Dr McVeigh said local projects covered a wide range of improvements and activities that will significantly benefit staff and students.
“Projects include improvements to playgrounds, new IT equipment, tuckshop enhancements, shade sails and school camp,” he said.
“I sincerely thank the local independent review panel that I convened which comprised representatives of Queensland Education, Catholic Education and Independent Education for their recommendations and advice on priority local projects.”
Dr McVeigh said the Coalition Government recognised the important role that schools play in our community.
“The school communities in our region nominated the projects they most wanted and I am very pleased that the Coalition Government stepped up with the necessary funding support through this fund.
“This is additional investment on top of the Coalition Government’s record funding of $310 billion for schools.”
