Kids attending Toowoomba’s Kath Dickson Family Centre will soon have even more fun with plans to significantly renovate and expand the centre’s outdoor playground area.
Federal Member for Groom John McVeigh joined Kath Dickson Family Centre CEO Ken Murphy at the facility today to announce $20,000 in funding from the Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities Program that will go towards a $40,000 upgrade.
“This is an exciting project, as it will essentially double to the size of the outdoor playground area for kids, as well as incorporate a series of culturally significant play areas to better reflect the diverse backgrounds of kids and families using the centre,” Dr McVeigh said.
“The playground will soon feature educational areas such as a Bush Tucker Garden and Yarning Circle and other educational equipment.”
Dr McVeigh said the upgrade to facilities would also support a range of new services offered by the Centre.
“The playground is a highlight for the 20 to 30 kids using the centre each day, but a lack of space has limited the centre’s growth for some time,” Dr McVeigh said.
“The additional playground space will enable Kath Dickson to expand its services including offering more playgroups and a range of support groups for families including a refugee/migrant support group and a grandparents support group.”
Dr McVeigh said the Stronger Communities program provided much-needed support for local community organisations across the country.
“I am very proud to be able to support local organisations in the Groom electorate like Kath Dickson Family Centre. This much-needed organisation provides care to local kids and their families, many of whom come from a disadvantaged background and can often use a little extra support,” he said.
“I applaud Kath Dickson Family Centre for its commitment to our region and for working so hard to enrich the lives of kids and families from all backgrounds in our region.”
