The Morrison Government is offering grants of up to $20,000 for schools and organisations to give our kids science opportunities in Australia and abroad.
The Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International Competitions program is now open for applications.
Federal Member for Groom John McVeigh said schools or local community groups can apply for grants of between $1,000 and $20,000 to sponsor eligible students under the age of 18 to attend or participate in STEM related events, activities and competitions in Australia or overseas.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Darling Downs students to gain the support they need to study in fields with strong employment outcomes,” Dr McVeigh said.
“These scholarships are about making student life easier for Darling Downs students and making STEM courses more attractive study options.
“I urge Darling Downs students to take advantage of the opportunities these scholarships offer to get the skills they need for future jobs.”
Minister for Industry Karen Andrews said the Government was providing opportunities and encouraging students to build their skills and to pursue STEM studies and careers.
“We want more young Australians to get the STEM foundation that will allow them to be part of future scientific and technological breakthroughs, and will also set them up for the jobs of the future,” she said.
“This is the fourth year the Government has offered funding under this program and it’s proven to be highly popular, giving many students life-changing STEM experiences.
The program allocates up to $1.6 million each year via grants of between $1000 and $20,000. Applications are capped at $1500 per student for domestic, and $5000 per student for overseas competitions and events.
The grants are now open and funding is allocated to eligible applicants on a first-in basis.
