Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher is the latest Federal Minister to visit the Toowoomba region.
Member for Groom Dr John McVeigh said Toowoomba’s current infrastructure surge economic diversity and innovative spirit was piquing the interest of Ministers who were keen to learn more about the city.
“Minister Fletcher is the sixth Minister to visit the region since the Turnbull Government was elected in July. Toowoomba has not seen as many Federal Ministers in the city in such a short time before ” Dr McVeigh said.
“Since entering the Federal Parliament in July I have taken every opportunity to tell my colleagues about the current business growth and entrepreneurial spirit on the Darling Downs.
“This has resulted in six Ministers visiting the area over the past six months to see our success story first-hand and learn more about what we are achieving in Toowoomba.
“The Prime Minister also took time out of his hectic schedule to visit the city. I know he has already gone back to Cabinet and talked about what he saw here that day … and I hope he may be a return visitor in the future given he was that impressed.”
Dr McVeigh said Minister Fletcher attended a number of meetings in the city inspected the Brisbane West-Wellcamp Airport and Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and toured the Railway Parklands with Mayor Paul Antonio.
“It was important as the Minister overseeing innovative urban infrastructure and development for Paul Fletcher to see first-hand the innovation in Toowoomba and what we have to offer the rest of the world ” Dr McVeigh said.
“The Railway Parklands have the potential to transform the inner city of Toowoomba and further enhance our beautiful city. I will be continuing to support Council in attracting appropriate seed capital for this project ” he said.
“This development needs to attract private investment and have the support of all three levels of Government to fulfil its potential.
“Making the appropriate Minister’s aware of the project is one of the first steps we need to take and Minister Fletcher was very impressed with the dimensions of the area and Council’s overall vision for the Parklands.”
